Rate case files, 1905-1916.

Notices and orders, correspondence, hearing transcripts, and exhibits in cases involving attempts by the RRWC to reduce the rates railroads charged for shipping merchandise, commodities, and express packages. The bulk of the merchandise and commodity case material dates 1906-1907, while the express cases date primarily 1909-1911. Information on the major railroads operating in Minnesota during this time period is found throughout the files. Also present is testimony on the valuations of property, mainly in Minnesota, of the Northern Pacific, Great Northern, and Minneapolis & St. Louis railroads (1908-1909).

The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. These registers were kept under the RRWC's regulatory responsibilities for stockyard rates (1919-1922; see Laws 1919 c461) and for licensing of livestock buyers (1935-1967; see Laws 1935 c216). In 1967 the RRWC was replaced by the Public Service Department (Laws 1967 c864), and in 1974 the livestock regulatory functions were transferred to the Department of Agriculture (Laws 1974 c347).
